We are ready for euromaintenance 4.0. Are you?

Published on: September 11, 2018

Euromaintenance 4.0, Europe’s most important conference on maintenance and asset management, is approaching. If you haven’t signed up yet, we hope to tickle your interest a bit more. In this blog post, we’re lifting one more tip of the veil about our two presentations and half-day workshop at Euromaintenance. See you there?

Euromaintenance is a unique opportunity to learn from industry experts. As for Kapernikov, we are presenting two customer cases and we offer a half-day workshop.

Presentation: Supporting strategic decisions with data mining for Belgian Transmission System Operator Elia

Time: Monday 24 September 2018 at 9 am
Host: Julien Deuse (Kapernikov)

Kapernikov used data visualization and data mining techniques to get a full overview of Elia’s complete network of electrical assets, allowing the customer to reduce OPEX and CAPEX during the maintenance of its grid. In our presentation, we will explain how we:

  • Collected and consolidated data from several systems to make an initial assessment;
  • Built a data lake, so we could start to process our data in all flexibility;
  • Developed visualizations of Elia’s asset base;
  • Used data mining techniques to improve our forecasts about the status of the equipment.

The Elia case proves how we can better manage the risk of equipment failure, but also understand the cause of the failure. This way, we helped our customer anticipate and avoid accidents.

Workshop: Practical introduction Microsoft Power BI for asset management

Time: Thursday 27 September 2018 at 9 am
Host: Patrick Steegstra (Kapernikov)

We will introduce you to Microsoft Power BI, by presenting a data set and history of the fictional company eLoops, a hyperloop public transportation network operator. In this workshop, you will learn:

  • How to build a Power BI dashboard from scratch.
  • How to quickly gain insights from large, complicated data sets.
  • How to find possible issues faster.
  • How to use this knowledge to make better business decisions.
  • How to efficiently clean data sets.

First, we will use Microsoft Power BI to build a visual overview of our data and find the issues that need fixing. Second, we will present specialized tools to improve our data quality.

Presentation: Railway Vegetation Management using Mobile LiDAR

Time: Tuesday 25 September 2018 at 2:50 pm
Host: Gina Stavropoulou (Kapernikov)

Mobile LiDAR Scanning systems have been widely used for infrastructure maintenance in the past decade. Based on recent technological developments, Kapernikov has developed a vegetation management plan for Belgian railway infrastructure operator Infrabel. The plan included the automatic detection of trackside vegetation in point cloud data, collected by means of computer vision methods.

The project included:

  • Classification of detected vegetation as threatening or non-threatening
  • Identification of vegetation zones that need pruning
  • Detection of various railway infrastructure, such catenary cables, rails and poles

See you at Euromaintenance
